Coronavirus Updates for the UCI Community

UCI is closely monitoring the coronavirus ("COVID-19") situation and associated communications from the county, state and federal authorities. We will continue to provide updates through this website and email communications, and take steps to ensure the health and safety of our community.


UPDATE
The UCI campus has three positive COVID-19 cases – one confirmed by public health officials, one self-reported, and one reported by a contractor whose employee was last on site on Mar. 13.
In accordance of health privacy laws, we cannot disclose the identity or personal information. We are in coordination with the Orange County Health Care Agency and connecting with those who may have been exposed through contact.

While we encourage you to review our FAQ section, we recognize that not every concern or question may be addressed, especially those with uniquely individual circumstances.

Preventative Measures

Reducing the spread of viruses starts with basic hygiene. Here are preventative measures that you can follow to keep our community healthy. 

Wash hands thoroughly

Always wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. *It's not the water temperature, but the time you take rubbing the hands (20 seconds).

Use your elbow

Cover your mouth with your elbow when you cough.

Stay at home

If you are sick, stay home and do not travel. Call ahead before visiting your doctor or the Student Health Center to arrange a time to be seen.

Clean surfaces often

Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

In an effort to assist our essential employees who are required to work on-site during this unique and unprecedented period of time, UCI is partnering with the YMCA to offer local child care services.

Confirmed Case of COVID-19 at UCI

We have been informed that a non-student resident of UCI’s campus family housing tested positive for COVID-19. In accordance of health privacy laws, we cannot disclose the identity or personal information regarding the individual. We have coordinated with the Orange County Health Care Agency and been in touch with those who may have been exposed through contact.

Urgent action needed for all UCI travelers outside of the US

March 20, 2020 7:55 a.m.

The Department of State advises U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19. UCI employees and supervisors must advise all of our travelers to either return to the US immediately or to stay where they are until guidelines change which could be many months, certainly an indefinite period of time.

On-Campus Residents Able to Safely Return to Their Permanent Residence Must Do So

The U.S. Department of Education has stated that student aid packages will not need to be adjusted, should students choose to return to their permanent residences for Spring quarter.

Reporting COVID-19 Paid Leave in TRS

March 18, 2020 6:01 p.m.

The Time Reporting System (timesheet.www.mbtsaleclearance.com) was recently updated to allow employees to report paid leave hours related to COVID-19. Employees who use TRS can report COVID-19 paid leave in the same way they report their normal work hours and leave usage.
